The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued yellow weather warnings for strong waves across much of the Canary Islands, with the alerts remaining in place from Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning.

The warnings, which indicate a moderate risk, affect Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, and Gran Canaria, and could be extended to other islands if conditions worsen.

The alerts will come into effect at 7:00pm on Tuesday, 7th October, and remain active until 7:00am on Wednesday. AEMET forecasts northeasterly winds of 50–61 km/h (force 7), mainly impacting the southern, eastern, and western coasts of the islands.

Maritime authorities are advising caution along coastal areas, as high waves and strong gusts could make swimming and marine activities dangerous.

Tuesday’s Forecast:
Cloudy skies are expected in the north, clearing later in the day, with generally sunny conditions elsewhere. A light haze (calima) may appear over the eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Winds will remain moderate from the northeast, occasionally strong in the southeast and northwest of the mountainous islands and around El Paso (La Palma), where strong gusts are possible. Gentle sea breezes are expected on southwest coasts.

Wednesday’s Forecast:
The yellow alert begins, with cloudy intervals in the north of the mountainous islands, especially early and late in the day, and mostly clear skies elsewhere. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura may see some morning cloud and light calima at altitude. Temperatures will remain stable or rise slightly, and northeasterly winds will strengthen, with gusts possibly reaching very strong levels in exposed areas during the first half of the day.

AEMET advises caution along northern and eastern coasts as waves and wind conditions worsen midweek.
