The Chief Commissioner of the National Police in Arrecife (Lanzarote), José Luis Gutiérrez, has been reported by the Local Police after testing positive for alcohol during a random roadside breath test carried out in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to sources close to the investigation.

The Canary Islands Police Headquarters confirmed that it is aware of the incident and is currently evaluating possible disciplinary action.

Gutiérrez reportedly underwent two breathalyser tests, the first returned a reading of 0.59 milligrams of alcohol per litre of breath, and the second 0.62, as reported by several Lanzarote news outlets.

The test took place near the Marina in Arrecife, and according to reports, the commissioner told local officers at the scene that he was on duty at the time.

That same night marked the final evening of the Arrecife en Vivo music festival, where Gutiérrez was reportedly in charge of the police operation.

Local media also noted that after the positive result, the unmarked National Police car he was driving was removed from the scene by another officer. The commissioner was travelling with two passengers when the incident occurred.
