After a calm spell of weather marked only by a few days of calima and a coastal alert, the Canary Islands are set for a noticeable change in conditions this week, with light rain forecast from today, Monday, becoming more widespread and intense from Thursday (16th October), according to AEMET.

Forecast models from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) indicate that a front will approach from the northwest, reaching La Palma on Thursday morning. The rain, at times thundery, will mainly affect the western islands (Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro) throughout the afternoon.

Weather forecast day by day:

MONDAY
Partly cloudy skies with clearer conditions at high altitudes. Some isolated, light showers may occur in the western islands.
Light to moderate northeasterly winds along the coasts, with a southerly component at higher elevations.
Temperatures will remain steady, around 22–26°C.

TUESDAY
Mix of high and low clouds, with occasional light showers on the larger islands. Weak northeasterly winds in the east and easterly winds in the west. Moderate southwesterlies on high ground.
Temperatures unchanged.

WEDNESDAY
Mostly clear at night, becoming cloudier by midday with the chance of scattered, weak showers. Increasing cloudiness over the westernmost islands by evening, where light to moderate rain is likely.
Slight temperature rise, with highs of 27°C.

THURSDAY
A more unstable day is expected as thicker clouds move in from west to east. Moderate rain, possibly thundery and persistent, is forecast for the western islands, especially on southern and western slopes. In the eastern islands, rain will be lighter and more scattered, mainly in the afternoon.
Winds will shift to the west, strengthening in mid and high areas, with occasional strong gusts.
Temperatures will stay similar, peaking around 27°C in Tenerife and 26°C in Gran Canaria.

Residents and visitors are advised to stay updated on forecasts and take care on the roads, especially from Thursday onwards when the rain is expected to be more significant.
