Residents of Los Cristianos, in the south of Tenerife, are claiming they have seen Pamela Gwinnett, the UK carer convicted in absentia over the theft of nearly £300,000 from an elderly woman, and some say they even know where she is hiding in the El Mirador area of the town, where she has allegedly bought two properties.

These claims have circulated on social media and among community groups on the island, though they have not yet been confirmed by Spanish or UK police sources.

According to longstanding reports, Gwinnett, 62, was convicted in her absence at Preston Crown Court after fleeing to the Canary Islands in April 2025. She was sentenced to six years for exploiting and defrauding 89-year-old Joan Green, who later died in 2022. A warrant for Gwinnett’s arrest remains active while UK authorities pursue assistance from Spanish counterparts.

Locals in Los Cristianos have posted sightings on Facebook groups, saying they have repeatedly seen a woman matching Gwinnett’s description in bars in around the resort. A small number of residents have gone further, claiming they can identify the building where she is staying.

The steadiness and number of the accounts have fuelled concern among both expats and visitors. Some residents said they are worried about the safety implications of someone wanted for serious financial abuse living openly in the resort, whereas others showed their concerns as they are heading to the island for their holidays.

UK court documents and press reporting say Gwinnett used her position of trust to isolate her victim, change the bungalow’s locks and phone number, and siphon nearly £300,000 into her own accounts for personal expenses, including cosmetic treatments and property payments. Family members have described how the victim was prevented from seeing relatives and died believing false claims made by the carer.

Police guidance to the public remains consistent: anyone who believes they have reliable information about a wanted person should contact the local police (Guardia Civil or Policía Nacional in Tenerife) or UK authorities, and should not attempt to approach or detain a suspect themselves.

The UK Crown Prosecution Service has been asked to confirm the steps taken with Spanish authorities to secure Gwinnett’s return; a Proceeds of Crime hearing linked to the case is scheduled for 23rd January 2026.

If you are in Los Cristianos and believe you have information, pass it promptly to the Guardia Civil or via National Police hotlines. Provide as many concrete details as possible (date, time, exact location, photos if safe to take), and refrain from sharing unverified accusations on social media, doing so can hamper investigations and risk the safety of people involved.

Note on reporting: this article reflects residents’ claims of sightings and local discussion. At the time of publication there is no publicly available, official confirmation from Spanish police in national outlets that the sightings have been verified. We will update if an official statement is released.
