Two people were injured, one of them seriously, after their motorbike came off the road and hit a safety barrier late on Saturday night in Los Roques de Fasnia, Tenerife, according to emergency services.
The crash happened around 11:00pm, when 112 Canarias received a call reporting that a motorbike had gone off the road and both riders needed help.
Local Police and a private medical team got to the scene first and gave the injured pair initial treatment until two ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) arrived.
A man suffered a serious head injury and was taken in critical condition to Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria Hospital in Santa Cruz. A woman with multiple bruises and scrapes was also taken to the same hospital, though her injuries were described as moderate.
Police have opened an investigation to find out exactly what caused the crash. It’s believed the bike lost control before hitting the barrier, and no other vehicles were involved.
It’s been another rough weekend on the roads in the Canary Islands, with several serious accidents reported. Authorities are reminding drivers and riders to take extra care, especially at night and on rural or winding roads.
