A 39-year-old man in Telde, Gran Canaria, has been arrested, after a large a large-scale cannabis setup spread across two properties was discovered. The National Police seized a total of 567 cannabis plants along with equipment used for cutting, drying, and handling the drug.

The investigation began on 16th September when the Police received information about a possible cannabis plantation on rural land in the neighbourhood of Jinámar. A surveillance operation was launched, where officers observed a man matching the description provided. After identifying him, they intercepted him as he entered the property.

Inside the grounds, police found 106 cannabis plants in full bloom, along with tools for growing and preparing the drug. During a security search, the suspect was also found to be carrying €190 in cash.

A second raid was carried out at another property linked to the man, where officers seized 461 dried cannabis plants, a bag of buds, and a precision scale.

The police have said the operation successfully dismantled a centre for the production and storage of marijuana on the island, preventing its distribution through the illegal market. The suspect was taken into custody and handed over to the court.

Similar cannabis plantations have been uncovered in the Canary Islands in recent years, often hidden on rural land or in residential properties. Authorities warn that these plantations not only fuel the black market but also pose risks to the environment and local communities.
